Lazy Girl Weekend @ the Good Food and Wine Show Brisbane 2013

Even Lazy Girls need a day off to recharge the batteries and seeing as The Good Food and Wine show was in Brisbane this past weekend it seemed like a good chance to unwind with friends. It's no secret that the Lazy Girls love good food...and wine, so this seemed like the perfect show for me to attend.

I personally love an event that is so encouraging of you to sample fine wines that it sells wine glasses on lanyards for you to wear around your neck...after all you are going to need your hands free for all the food samples you are going to try, right? Whilst I wasn't quite ready to hang a glass from my neck, Erica and I did purchase glasses to use for wine/cider sampling later in the day.

We started our day wandering the different stalls deciding it was never too early to sample cheese but maybe a little too early to try the wine. As we wondered past the Foxtel Lifestyle Food kitchens we were offered discounted tickets to watch Matt Stone cook and try some samples of his food. It was hard to resist so we headed in and ate a really yummy quinoa, radish and avocado salad followed by delicious Sticky Vietnamese pork and mango papaya salad and finished with a liquid centred chocolate cake and custard. There was wine to match each course - so maybe it wasn't too early to start sampling wines. :-)

After that we headed to the celebrity theatre to watch Matt Moran's cooking show. I love watching Matt Moran cook, he makes everything look simple and achievable for every cook.

It was at this point that I received a tweet to say I had won a competition to meet Matt Moran!! What?!? So exciting.

We were taken backstage to the VIP area where we met Matt Moran and Matt Golinski and hung out with them while Anna Gare was cooking up a storm on stage. We were given more wine (yes more!) and chatted with these amazing chefs for quite a while. What an experience!! It pays to keep an eye on social media and see what competitions are out there.

We discovered some really great new products and produce that you don't always see in your regular supermarkets. The new Pura Veda coconut yoghurt was delicious and healthy and I learnt about a new service called Hello Fresh where you get all your fresh ingredients delivered to your door to cook your own chef designed menu. This sounds kind of fun.

Finally we finished our day by looking at the rest of the stalls, picking up some bargains and watching Matt Golinski and Alastair McLeod cooking together in the celebrity theatre. What a great end to the day.

This is my 3rd visit to the Good Food and Wine show and it's getting better and better every year.

Make sure you check it out next year if you haven't already.
